As I get ready to travel back to Zim I marvel at the support we have received from the teachers at Sherwood Elementary and the Sherwood Youth Soccer Club in Sherwood Oregon, USA. Lori Beymer and her husband Warren have been great in assisting me getting donations of education materials and soccer gear for the EPIC Kids program. Lori, a grade four teacher at Archer Glen Elementary, has been instrumental in getting school supplies donated from the teachers at Archer Glen. Lori led her grade four kids last year in making dot books. Dot books are counting books made by the school kids and illustrated by the school kids. Through her efforts and other classes in the Sherwood School District, the EPIC Kids program delivered 75 books to various schools in the Bulawayo area in July. She has also helped to collect hundreds of crayons, pens and pencils for the kids in the schools that EPIC Kids serve.
Warren has been helping me collect soccer gear from the families in the Sherwood Youth Soccer Club. Their daughter Elizabeth and my daughter Halie made posters and Warren and I sat out all day during the SYSC soccer jamboree. Through the generosity of the club members we collected over 100 pairs of boots, 22 balls, over 35 pairs of shin guards and numerous jerseys and shorts to help outfit kids in the EPIC Kids program.
I am packing and unpacking my three bags working to fit as much of the donated materials in for my upcoming trip on November 1. While there I will be conducting EPIC Kids animal outreach programs with the Chipangali staff and passing out the school supplies and soccer gear. Stay tuned as I will post pictures and blog during my trip whenever possible. If you would like more information please contact me at chipangalicriusa@gmail.com
