Rosslyn

Leopard
4 years Years old

Rosslyn relaxing after a big meal

Rosslynn is an animal whcih shows how even under extreme pressure is able to adapt and survive for life in the wild

Roslynn came from Roslynn hunting safaris. She was brought to us when she was about 9 or 10 months old, but she was the size of a 6 month old leopard. What had happened was that on a neighbouring farm her mother had been shot when she was about 4 to 5 months old. She had never finished suckling from her mother which a young leopard generally does till about 6 months old. She had however survived by probably hunting lizards and other small things and also before she had been trapped she had been seen stealing scraps from the camps.

Anyway one night she found the pen where all the young ostriches were being kept and she got into it and killed or maimed over 50 chicks. She must have thought she had died and gone to heaven. She came again the next night but they were waiting for her and they caught her. A real ball of fire. She was brought to Chipangali, but for many months during the day while people were around, she would cower behind a rock in her cage so hardly anyone used to see her. She is much better now and people often see her. She is still a small leopard and still nervous unless she really knows you and you take the time to spend with the her and calm her down then she can actually be a little friendly.
